Recent changes to the law in Portugal affect properties marketed for rental and have particularly affected the accommodation, in villas and apartments, not included in touristic resorts.

Specific legislation has been put into place in March and June of 2008 (DL nº 39/2008 and Portaria nº 517/2008), which clarifies the property Owners’ position regarding this type of activity, now named as Local Accommodation (“Alojamento Local”).

Legal and tax implications need to be analyzed carefully, so that compliance to current laws can be guaranteed.
